Do you want to boost your public speaking confidence and style? Develop your depth of analysis? Build on your critical reasoning and listening skills? Become more persuasive? Then the Kavanagh Debating Club is for you!
Students of any age are welcome to come along to the Kavanagh Debating Club’s weekly practices, but the local debating competition is open to students in Years 9-13. Junior and senior debating teams participate in a range of events throughout the year such as the Dunedin Secondary Schools Debating Competition, the Otago Regional One-Day Debating Competition, the annual Kavanagh College Teacher vs Student Debate and the Catholic Schools public speaking tournament - the Bishop’s Shield.
Being part of the Kavanagh Debating Club is a great way to make new friends, learn valuable skills and have fun.

Over the weekend Kavanagh’s Debating club went to their annual regional debating competition to compete against schools from all over Otago and Southland. The competition involves five debates over the course of the weekend and provides the chance to get great feedback from university-level debaters to improve their skills.
