We have 8 instrumental and vocal tutors who visit us throughout the week to give lessons to students during and after school. We are very lucky to have this amazing group of teachers come into school to provide students with the opportunity to learn and develop on their chosen instruments. They inspire and challenge each and every student.
These are our private tutors who come into school during the week:
Paul McKlennan-Kissell BA (Hons) (Music) MMus. Paul is a professional gigging musician and teacher throughout Dunedin. You may have heard him play with the Julian Temple Band.
Andy Parsons BMus (Hons). Andy is also a professional musician and respected guitar teacher in schools around Dunedin. Andy is responsible for dreaming up and organising the WaikeriFest Music Festival.
Che Long LLb (Hons), B.Tech Mus, Dip NZMSM. Che is a guitar and bass teacher at schools throughout Dunedin.
Gareth Davies A.Dip. St Cecilia School of Music. Gareth teaches here at Kavanagh and at the Bouman studios. His specialities are Jazz, classical, improvisation, and contemporary/modern.
Molly Devine - MMus Contemporary Vocal Performance. Molly works extensively as a tutor and gigging musician in Queenstown and Dunedin. You may have heard her sing with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra at the Tally Ho! Dunedin Sounds concert a couple of years ago.
Nick Cornish. We are very lucky to have Nick come into our school. He is a world-class musician, both as a classically trained double-reed specialist (Oboe and Bassoon) as well as extensive Jazz capabilities on Saxophone. He plays in bands and orchestras throughout the South Island and has often been called on to play with the NZSO.
Paul Claman. Paul is a phenomenal musician across a range of brass instruments, his speciality being trombone. Paul has played extensively with classical orchestras in New Zealand, Brass Bands, Concert Bands and or course the beloved Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra.
Ainsley Tucker. Ainsley is our wonderful string teacher. Her speciality is in classical violin and folk music. She has a passion for community music making and ensembles.
