Physical Education at Trinity Catholic College is all about students learning to improve their Health by learning in, through and about Physical Education.

Year 7-10 Physical Education

Physical Education at Trinity Catholic College is all about students learning to improve their Health by learning in, through and about Physical Education.  All students are encouraged to participate fully and to the best of their abilities.  The department offers a large range of activities and sporting contexts with a focus on learning through games.  Assessment is not always all about how good you are in an activity but includes interpersonal skills, self-responsibility along with participating and contributing.

NCEA Physical Education

In the senior school, Physical Education is a full NCEA option course with a large theory and academic content alongside a variety of physical contexts. The programmes at each year level have a mix of theory and practical classes each week.

Year 11

The course includes knowledge of body structure, interpersonal skills, physical activity programmes, the performance of physical skills, motor learning.   Highlights include the Gridiron Tournament.

Year 12

The course includes functional anatomy, biomechanics, principles and methods of training, skill learning and sport psychology, risk management and leadership.  Physical skills that are assessed are mountain biking, lawn bowls and cross country.  Highlights include the mountain bike trip to Naseby.

Year 13

The course includes carrying out and evaluating a personalised exercise programme, biomechanical analysis of a sporting skill, leadership and performance of physical skills.  Physical skills are assessed through the Aquathon and Squash.  Highlights include experiencing different leadership theories on a Rafting Daytrip. 

Year 11 Health and Recreation

This is a course for Year 11 students where the focus is on participating and contributing.  The majority of classes are practical but students have the chance to complete two NCEA achievement standards during the year.

 Year 9 - 10 Health

Health is taught as a subject on its own to Year 9 and 10 students.  Year 9 and 10 students have Health once a week throughout the year.  In that time they cover a variety of topics including mental health and well-being, decision making, self-concept, addictive substances, outdoor education and cyber safety.
