Course Outline
Level Two Physics is a challenging course that requires regular revision at home. Students should carefully consider their own academic abilities when selecting this course.
The aim of this course is to solve problems in a Physics context using appropriate methods, formulae and knowledge of theory. Topics studied include:
- Measurements and Relationships
- Wave phenomena including the optics of mirrors and lenses and mechanical waves
- Mechanics - motion, force, momentum and energy
- Atoms and Radioactivity
- Electricity and Electromagnetism
Assessment
Internals
AS 91168 - Carry out a practical physics investigation 4 credits
AS 91172 - Demonstrate understanding of atomic and nuclear physics 3 credits
AS 91169 - Demonstrate understanding of physics relevant to a selected context 3 credits
Externals
AS 91170 - Demonstrate understanding of waves 4 credits
AS 91171 - Demonstrate understanding of mechanics 6 credits
AS 91173 - Demonstrate understanding of electricity and electromagnetism 6 credits
Where Does It Lead
Please note that Level 3 Physics is academically demanding and to enable success, students should aim to achieve at least 15 Credits at level 2 including at least two of the three external standards.
