Entry Requirement

14 credits from L1 Technology - Hard Materials is highly recommended.

HOD approval requested where students can demonstrate appropriate prior experience. 

Cost

Students will be charged for the materials that make up their individual products according to the quantity and quality of materials they choose to use.

Course Outline

This course will involve students in developing their technological literacy for the designing and manufacture of products and prototypes to meet the needs of specific client based Design Briefs.  Products will be developed in a well-equipped workshop.

Students work will be assessed against Technology Achievement Standards to a maximum of 20 credits.  Student evidence for assessment will be presented in the form of a Portfolio and finished product examples.

Internals 

AS 91344 - Implement advanced procedures using resistant materials to make a specific product with special features    6 credits

AS 91356 - Develop a conceptual design for an outcome

AS 91357 - Undertake effective development to make and trial a prototype    6 credits

Externals 

AS 91358 - Demonstrate understanding of how technological modelling supports risk management    4 credits

This course provides a foundation for further study in tertiary courses in technology or trade qualifications eg. Design, Product design, Industrial design, Technological degrees, engineering and building trades
