NCEA Level 1 with Achievement Standards

Entry Requirement

Previous experience in Years 9 and 10 would be an advantage but not necessary.

All students with an interest in designing and constructing clothing or textile articles are welcome. 

Students should be able to use a sewing machine.

Cost

$30. In the development of design solutions, students will be encouraged to manufacture products with a high quality take home value.

Students will provide their own materials for practical projects, eg patterns, fabrics etc...

Course Outline

Technology: Textile Design comprises skills in design, skills in garment construction and related studies. Students will become familiar with the design process while developing their research, construction and problem-solving skills. A strong emphasis is placed on the construction of quality products.

Internals 

AS92012 Develop a materials and processing technology outcome for an authentic context – 6 credits

AS92013 Develop a materials and processing technology outcome by transforming, manipulating or combining different materials – 6 credits

External

AS92014 Demonstrate understanding of sustainable practices in the development of a materials and processing technology design - 4 credits

Where Does It Lead

L2 Textile Design

Courses at Polytechnics throughout New Zealand. It may lead to careers in the clothing industry, apparel retailing and provides excellent skills for life.
