Mitchell Stewart was not at all dubious about the ten spelling words that secured his spot in the 2017 New Zealand Spelling Bee Final.

Mitchell will compete in the New Zealand final in October, where he will be flown to Wellington to challenge seven other of New Zealand's top spellers.

Kavanagh College had four strong spellers selected to compete in the Spelling Bee regionals this Tuesday. Mitchell Stewart, Rosa Latton, Tobias Devereux and Riley Mortimer were all put on the spot with challenging words that they had to spell out loud to an anticipating audience.

Words such as exaggerate, tribute, souvenir, myriad, tremulous and dubious did not stump Mitchell in the competition where students gradually were eliminated for spelling a word wrong.  In preparation for the final, Mitchell must read a range of texts and continue to challenge himself with a range of words.

All the best Mitchell!
