Hockey Teams All Get Underway For New Season

The start of the hockey season sees Kavanagh playing two mixed teams in the boys' competition on Tuesday nights.

The development team were the first off the rank and came up against Kings 3rds. A fantastic start saw Cody Paulsen intercept a pass and charge down the field, beating several players and lay off a pass for Quinn Wilson to score. Playing without a goalie was always going to challenge the team and Kings popped a few to see us 4-1 down at half-time.  A great goal to Paris Laws, who was on the end of some great passes by the team, saw us back in the game. Unfortunately, Kings came home strongly and pushed the final score to 7-2.

The Firsts played Toko Firsts in a second division clash. Some first-game rust saw us 2-0 down but the team rallied well with captain Ellery Campbell striking a sweet shot to pull one back. Some words of advice from the coaching staff at half time saw the team play a more expansive game and pressure the circle more often. A penalty corner was well-struck home by Ellery and at two all the game was anyone's. Solid defence from Iona McArthur stifled the Toko strikers in the circle. Kavanagh piled on the pressure and had many forays into the Toko circle without luck. With a minute left a penalty corner was won, with Sam Sherriff slamming home the winner on the buzzer.
