Welcome to Principal Kate Nicholson

Today we welcomed our new Principal, Kate Nicholson, to the College.  The following is my speech of welcome.

"Tena Koutou / Tena Koutou / Tena Koutou ka toa

It is with a great deal of enthusiasm that the students, staff, Board of Trustees, parent community and I welcome you to Kavanagh College. Kate you will be the fourth Principal of this school. The founding principal was Brother Vincent Jury. He was followed by Mr Paul Ferris, and the late Mr Tracy O'Brien. I also welcome your husband Tim and daughter Bethany here today and acknowledge their support of you.

I know that many in your community were sad to hear that you were moving onto another school, as they say - St Peter's loss is our gain. Kate you have a reputation as a passionate educator. You bring extensive educational experience, a strong interest in student well-being and a focus on modern learning practices to the College.

Kavanagh College has four Core Values as its heart and mind, guiding us in our actions and decision making. We hope that Respect, Service, Justice and Truth are evident to you in your first few days and indeed throughout your time here.

We look forward to working with you, building on past success and leading the College in new directions, responding to the everchanging needs of our learners. It can be tough being a school leader. Your job is incredibly significant, leading and managing change in our College.

We as a community recognise that there will times when you will need some support and inspiration to uplift you. We will try to be that support and inspiration.

On behalf of Kavanagh College community, I welcome you and we look forward to working with you".
