Annual Southland-Otago Debating Competition

Kavanagh College had three teams competing in the annual regional debating competition where they debated six intense debates over two days.

K1: Rosa Latton, Andrew Wilson and Tobias Brennan; K2: Molly Colbert, Lachie Allibone and Meg Christophers; K3: Luca Holloway, Cody  Paulsen and Manaia Barns. All teams had a series of wins and K1 did well to almost break to the semis.

Molly Colbert must have got the judges talking as she was asked to take part in a call back debate. However, it was Rosa Latton who is to be commended for being selected for the Senior Development Squad and was one of the five highly commended speakers. Rosa has put a lot of time and effort into her debating over the years and it is great to see her rewarded for all her hard work.

All the students had a fabulous weekend where they upskilled in the sport. They look forward to continuing to challenge local schools in the Dunedin Secondary Schools competition, amongst other events in the school calendar.
