Moving Towards Level 2 at Kavanagh College

Dear Parents and Whanau

As we expected, the Prime Minister has announced that schools will be open from Monday 18th May. The leadership team is currently planning for this to happen and we will ensure that the physical environment is set up to mitigate any health and safety risk to our students and staff. We also recognise that returning to ‘physical school’ may be challenging for some after being at home for such a long period of time, and we want to make sure that arriving at school on Monday is as welcoming as possible.

On Monday, we will invite all our young people back with a short assembly. The assemblies will happen in a staggered way in different venues to allow for physical spacing. We plan to welcome our year 7-10 students into school at 8.50am, followed by the year 11 and 12 groups at 9.30am. Our Year 13s will join us at 10.05am.

Usually in term two, students have moved into winter uniform. We recognise that some students may need to wear summer uniform initially until there is an opportunity to purchase items for the winter uniform. The uniform shop will be emailing parents about shop hours and uniform purchases.

Staff will be in school on Friday to prepare for a return to teaching onsite rather than remotely. Therefore, on Friday, staff will not be available for video meetings or student correspondence. Instead they may set work for the day or give students time to catch up on previous work, in preparation for their return to the classroom next week.

I will have more detailed planning information for you by the end of the week. In the meantime, I wish you all the best as the move towards level two begins to be felt and experienced in your homes.

Warm regards

Kate Nicholson
