Pentecost

Pentecost Sunday falls this year on May 19, 50 days after Easter and 10 days before the Ascension.

It is known as the 'birthday of the Church' as it marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. It launched the spreading of the Gospel as the Apostles, led by Peter, were inspired to go and meet the people gathered and preach the Word of God.

In Western Churches, Pentecost is usually represented with the color red, which symbolizes the fire of the Holy Spirit. Today in the Church we are still seeking the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The gifts are: Self Control, Faithfulness, Kindness, Goodness, Love, Joy, Peace, Patience and Gentleness, which continue to be so important for ourselves, families and global communities.
