Development Team

First game of the season is in the books and while the scoreboard didn't go our way, what it didn't show was the amount of heart the team displayed.

As the game progressed positions were changed and the cohesion started coming together. Player of the day selected by Paris Laws (team captain) was Ethan Bremner who was fierce and relentless in defense.

We saw glimpses of what this team will put on the table once they get used to playing together and it was awesome. What was best was that they never stopped trying. The belief in the team and pride of playing for Kavanagh was obvious.

Also thanks to Guin Wilson who has stepped up to umpire for the season.

Scott and Sam White (proud coaches)--

First XI

On Tuesday night the 1st XI had their first hockey game for the season. Before the game started the captain and vice captain were named for the season ahead. Sam Beckwith was announced as captain for the 2020 season and Summer Paulin as vice captain.

With Sam out injured for the first game, Summer lead the team to a great 3-2 win against Tokomairiro High School. Every player played the game with high intensity until the final whistle and their attitude to not give up, even when energy levels were getting low, really shined through. Goals were scored by Campbell MacDade and Cody Paulsen who got two goals under his belt to kick start his hockey season. Our goal keeper Josef Tisdall had an active game in goal and made numerous saves that contributed to keeping Tokomairiro from scoring any further goals. Overall it was a big team effort and it’s looking to be a very exciting team ahead. The coaching and management staff are really proud of how everyone played.

Players who have been selected into the 1st XI are:

Sam Beckwith (Captain), Summer Paulin (Vice Captain), Graysen Thomson, Hannah Larson, Beldon Webb, Campbell MacDade, Paddy Craft, Cody Paulsen, Guin Wilson, Ruby La Hood, Luca Holloway, Malcolm Reynolds, Josef Tisdall, Jeremy Meikle.
