WOODHAUGH TO WHARE FLAT

YEAR 11 PHYSICAL EDUCATION & YEAR 11 DUKE OF EDINBURGH

Woodhaugh Gardens to the Waiora Scout camp at Whare Flat via Swampy Summit is a big walk - 21.3 kms to be precise. That's what 66 Year 11s completed last Saturday as part of their respective course requirements.

The Year 11 Physical Education class had to demonstrate management and safety strategies in the outdoors while the Duke of Edinburgh had to complete a 'warm-up' tramp as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award requirements. After a restful night camping at Waiora, it was time to lace up the boots and do it all again on Sunday. The walk back to Woodhaugh was slightly shorter at 16 kms and took a more direct route through the City Forest plantation. It's fair to say that by the time everyone had reached the finish line there were a lot of tired bodies.

It was a huge effort and thanks must go to the students, teachers and parents who did the hard yards and made this a memorable weekend. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful outdoor playground to explore and enjoy on our doorstep.
