Samuel and Joseph Kelly had a very successful weekend at the Green Island Junior Vocal Competitions. Their hard work placed them in the top three of their age group classes against tough competition including strongly contested 1st placings.
Samuel achieved 1st place in the Musical Theatre Song and 1st in the Song in Character classes. His performance of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables was compelling, moving many in the audience to tears. His Mr Cellophane from Chicago was evocative on every level of emotion communicated. He won the Clark Family Memorial Trophy and the Gladys Hope Cup.
Joseph was placed 1st in the National Song, 1st in the Sacred Song with Caccini's beautiful Ave Maria and 1st in the Popular Song which was particularly creative as he moved quickly from voice to whistling perfectly in tune. He won the Anngow Cup, the Society Challenge Bowl and the Mitchell Smith Memorial Trophy. He also won his age group Scholarship for most points over four classes, the Glenys Fraser Cup and $60.
Congratulations, boys! So well-deserved!
