Kavanagh Jazz Musos

Kavanagh put on a great show on Friday at the annual Dunedin Youth Jazz Competition.

Our musicians came third in the Big Band category, and second in Small Combo. In addition, our musicians took out a raft of individual musicianship awards including best clarinet performance (Oscar Robertson), best trumpet performance (Tobias Devereux), best guitar performance (Jacob Green-Brough), best violin performance (Sean Smalls), most promising bassist (Jakira Brophy), and most promising pianist (Oscar Robertson).

It was a phenomenal effort all round amid a very talented field of musicians from around the city and the quality of music was high. Despite the highly fought competition, everyone was hugely supportive of each other and appreciative of the talent on show.

Our Kavanagh musicians were a credit to the school and to themselves. We are very proud of them.
