Principal's Message

Thank you for the preparation you have done at home to support your children – and to support us – as our young people have started the school year. We have had a wonderful first couple of weeks. Students are settled and learning, the playground vibe is positive and friendly, and our opening events last week were memorable. This year at our formal welcome, our mihi whakatau, for all new students and their families, we had our whole school welcome new students with a haka after they had processed down Tennyson Street and through ‘the black gates’. I was very pleased with the way our student body conducted themselves, considering they had only arrived for their first day half an hour beforehand. Well done!

Similarly, our Opening Mass was a joy to be part of. Many staff have commented that it was the best Mass they have been part of in all their time on staff. Thank you to Fr Vaughan Hook and to Matua Moananu Pesamino Tili, who along with the Special Character Prefects, made this so memorable. What a wonderful way to start our year!

It was certainly noticeable during yesterday morning’s Junior Assembly in the auditorium that our roll has grown. Thank you for entrusting your taonga, your treasures, to us. We are very aware of our big responsibility to make learning at Trinity the best it can be. If you are a new parent into our Trinity community, you will find that I speak regularly about communication. A positive three-way partnership – learner, whānau, and college – is essential for holistic educational success. I encourage you to talk with us at any time if you feel there is something we need to know about or if you have any concerns. I know that many of you will have already had email messages from your child’s teacher/s to begin this communication for the year. Of course, words of encouragement and appreciation are also well received and help us to know when we have ‘hit the mark’.

We are enjoying having some new faces in our staffroom this year and I hope you get an opportunity to meet them before long. They will introduce themselves to you through the weekly newsletters over the next few weeks. And of course, there is an opportunity to meet our new year 7&8 ako teachers this evening at the Meet the Teachers evening for our new families.

We continue our theme of ‘Striving to be the Best Versions of Ourselves’. This is also a message in the Gospels and implicit in our motto ‘Hei ākonga mā te Karaiti’ which translates ‘As disciples of Christ’. Let us remember in our prayers, those who have had a challenging start to the year within their families and relationships, and we trust that God will bring hope and joy into their lives.
