Summer Holiday Reading Bags

By Colette Mahoney | Posted: Tuesday November 19, 2019

The library is offering students summer holiday reading bags to encourage students to read and improve literacy levels.

Studies in New Zealand and overseas have shown that students literacy levels slide over summer. This is called the Summer Reading Slump. The library wants to combat this by offering a bag with a selection of books, based on the student's preferences, to be issued for the summer holidays. We want to maximise our collection and have books in students homes where they can be read.

The bags and books will need to be returned early in term 1  2020.  A big thank you to The Dunedin Public Library who have generously provided us with the reusable bags to pack with books. Any student is welcome to a bag of summer reading. Come into the library and fill out a form outlining your book preferences, give it to Mrs Mahoney and we will put a bag together for you. You are most welcome to pick your own books too. Any questions please email me mahoneyc@kavanagh.school.nz
