Pasifika Marine Science Programme

For three days in a row, a Marine Science programme for Pacific Year 9 & 10’s was held at the New Zealand Marine Science Centre.

For the three days we explored different parts of climate change from the perspective of the Pacific as well as a marine perspective and how it could, and is, affecting marine life.

I found the course really fun and eye-opening to the reality of what the pacific islands and our marine life are facing as climate change. There were so many hands on experiments and experiences that I enjoyed. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the close connection between the programme and what we are focusing on this term in our Ako class. I’ve already found lots of information that I collected from this programme has helped me understand what we are learning about class.

Throughout the three days in groups we created a transmedia campaign showing what we learnt including artwork, posters, movies and plays which we presented to parents and family the night of the Friday. The programme was created so that they showed the information in relation to us personally which is what I really enjoyed. This programme was great, with lots of new experiences, skills and information.
