A Crowning success
Oliver Hill in Year 12 recently had the opportunity to attend a Cake Decorating Masterclass at Otago Polytechnic. Claire Pennell of Cakes of Wanaka hosted the cake designing/decorating class and demonstrated the decoration of a single-layered naked cake. Each teacher and student in attendance decorated a cake supplied by the Otago Polytechnic to take home. Claire primarily works in the space of commissioned bespoke cakes – including being the designer of Richie McCaw and Gemma Flynn’s wedding cake. Oliver made an amazing job of decorating his cake and attached is a photo of the completed cake that he took home.
“I made this cake in a short course on cake decoration at Otago Polytechnic. It was great to be able to see how professional chefs work and to use excellent ingredients in a first class kitchen. I would like to thank Mrs Robinson and Claire Pennell for the opportunity to attend the course.” - Oliver Hill
