KĀHUI AKO CULTURAL EVENING

Kavanagh College hosted the inaugural Kāhui Ako cultural evening on Tuesday.

Students from St Bernadette’s, Sacred Heart, St Mary's Kaikorai, St Francis Xavier, St Peter Chanel, St Joseph's Cathedral and Kavanagh College performed items from their PolyFest brackets.

The Christian Brother's Gymnasium was full as students, families, teachers, principals, parish priests and Bishop, The Most Rev. Michael Dooley, enjoyed the sights and sounds.

Father Fredy Permentilla from St Mary's showed off his great guitar skills while the entire school sang an upbeat Filipino song.

Sacred Heart School prepared their heartfelt bracket especially for this event and dedicated it to their long-serving kapa haka tutor, Emere Leach-Munro who has moved to the North Island.

This event is sure to get bigger and we hope that more Catholic schools will attend in 2020. A big thank you to the Kāhui Ako team who organised the event, namely Carmel Jolly, Kathleen O'Kane, Ian Adamson and Siobhan Burke.

Lastly, thank you to MCs Piata Rāpata-Hanning and Keisha Su'a for doing a fantastic job.
